TORONTO, ONTARIO – On May 5, 2010 Sahaja Yoga will celebrate 40 years of teaching and spreading the art of meditation. In celebration of this important anniversary, the organization is extending an invitation to the public to attend a free Open House to experience meditation on May 5, 2010, 7:00 p.m. at the North York Civic Centre, 5100 Yonge Street, North York.

Sahaja Yoga is a method of meditation that teaches how to focus attention inwardly to find quietude and peace. In doing so, one becomes more aware of their body’s own energy, channels and centres (chakras).

At the Open House, guests will be guided through a meditation to experience the energy channels, chakras and kundalini energy. Learning how to meditate simply involves techniques to focus on the present moment, thereby changing ones state of awareness. When that occurs a calm, peaceful feeling is experienced. “Innately within us resides the spirit,” says Nobel Peace Prize nominee Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi and Sahaja Yoga founder, “which wants to enlighten you to give you the peace, the bliss and the joy of our being.”

The benefits of regular meditation have been documented and validated by many clinical case studies conducted in medical institutions in Asia, Australia and Europe. The research has confirmed a positive benefit in a number of areas:

* Improved physical, mental and emotional health
* Stress management
* Positive role in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases
* Treatment of high blood pressure and bronchial asthma

Since its inception in India in 1970, Sahaja Yoga has grown with free classes being held around the globe in over 80 countries. In Canada, free classes have been offered across the country since 1978 and in the GTA since 1982.
